Brand Viagra (sildenafil) is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged. Brand Viagra is taken orally, usually as needed, about one hour before sexual activity. It should not be taken more than once a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Brand Viagra is usually taken only when needed, about 30 minutes to 1 hour before sexual activity. You may take it up to 4 hours before sexual activity. Do not take Brand Viagra more than once per day. Allow 24 hours to pass between doses.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
- ringing in your ears, or sudden hearing loss;
- chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
- irregular heartbeat;
- swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
- shortness of breath; or
- vision changes or sudden vision loss.
Seek medical attention right away if you have symptoms of serotonin syndrome, such as: agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Brand Viagra can decrease blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. This has occurred in a small number of people, most of whom also had heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, and in those who smoked or were over 50 years old.
It is not clear whether Brand Viagra is the actual cause of vision loss. Stop taking Brand Viagra and get emergency medical help if you have sudden vision loss.
Before taking this medicine
- You should not use Brand Viagra if you are allergic to sildenafil, or:
if you take other medicines to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, such as riociguat (Adempas).
To make sure Brand Viagra is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- heart disease or heart rhythm problems;
- a recent heart attack (within the past 6 months);
- a recent history (in the past 6 months) of a stroke, or "mini-stroke";
- high or low blood pressure;
- pulmonary hypertension;
- liver or kidney disease;
- a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia;
- a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia;
- a stomach ulcer;
- retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye);
- a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease); or
- if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons.
Brand Viagra is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
It is not known whether sildenafil passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.
Brand Viagra is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
How should I take Brand Viagra?
- Take Brand Viagra exactly as it was prescribed for you. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

- chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
- irregular heartbeat;
- swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
- shortness of breath;
- vision changes or sudden vision loss;
- feeling light-headed, fainting; or
- penis erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer.
